Introduction

The Diary of Poncho Bakewell, initially disregarded by experts as "the insane ramblings of some kind of prancing eldritch idiocy masquerading as a man", has since come to be considered a treasure trove of insights into the mind of an individual who would go on to arouse the interests of psychologists, historians, sociologists and greengrocers worldwide. I, Professor Remy Shuffle, am fortunate enough to have been chosen to reprint on this blog excerpts from Poncho Bakewell's diary, which I hereby present with no alterations to the original text apart from the wiping away of some unknown residue about which you need not be concerned as we are all the stuff of stars.

Remy Shuffle is Professor of Bookmology and Assorted Fluids at Hull University and the author of over nine-hundred novels, including the acclaimed Captain Thrust Randomly series, two of which - Captain Thrust Randomly and the Doomlords of Neptune and Captain Thrust Randomly and the Haunted Giggleberries - have been made into successful feature films featuring a computer-generated George from George and Mildred as Lieutenant Bob "Oh, never mind" Braithwaite.
